COVID-19 is believed to be spread mainly by coming in direct contact with an infected person or inhaling droplets released when an infected person sneezes or coughs. However, another thing to keep in mind is that these droplets can drop on surfaces and contaminate the surface. Studies have shown that depending on the type of surface and the material the virus can survive anywhere between 3 hours to 7 days. So, just because the virus cannot survive on certain surfaces or materials for a longer duration, it is essential to know that the risk of infection from touching a contaminated surface is still present. Using proper protective gear and following preventive protocol is recommended.
