Are Hand Sanitizers Effective?

If soap and water are unavailable and washing hands is not an option, hand sanitizers can protect you from getting infected with the COVID-19 virus. It may not be as effective as washing your hands, using hand sanitizers is still a convenient and on-the-go method for protection against germs and viruses. Experts recommend using a hand sanitizer with more than 60% alcohol, as sanitizers with less alcohol concentration are less effective at killing germs. According to the National Academy of Sciences, alcohol-based hand sanitizers work by inactivating many types of germs and viruses. Thus, using hand sanitizers when washing hands with soap and water is not an option is an effective way to keep yourself protected from the harmful COVID-19 virus.
